Broadcast Receiver
Is it true transmitted radio waves cause a receiver to generate its own power to broadcast the signal?

If that is the case, why can't we use a wireless process to transmit a power source from a generation plant to outback communities to provide usable electricity? Or even through the local community and do away with inefficient power lines.

The first part of your question. Yes! That is how crystal radio receiver sets work. There is no other power source needed to listen to AM radio other than the power in the transmitted radio waves. But the same issues that require you to use high impedance headsets with crystal radios effects power transmission over the air. The loss is in factors of thousands.

Those radio waves leave the tower at 50,000 Watts and arrive at your crystal radio in milliWatts. There is the same problem with power transmission. Metallic power transmission lines are much, much more efficient.

Pansat Digital Broadcasting Sat. Receiver 2500a? what is it?

I have dish network, and someone I know with directTV bought one of these, and it wasn't compatible with DirectTV so he gave it to me. What exactly does it do, and is something like this illegal? Thanks

It is called a Free-To-Air receiver. They are legal to use to receive MPEG2/DVB satellte channels that are broadcast with no encrpytion, such as those on Galaxy 19 Ku band.

It is illegal to use to decrypt encrypted channels, so will do no legal good for Dishnetwork. Not to mention that piracy has changed so that receiver just won't work for current pat TV theft methods.

Get yourself a 33" or larger Ku dish and have fun with it.
